Call me nature girl

I have spent the last 2 weekends in the WILD and it has been great. I have some pictures from my Big Basin Camping Trip with Jeni and Carlos and all of our dogs (Rocco, Peezy, Pachuco and Cutie pie Bellatrix).

Friday Morning 11:00am

Rouge meets Jeni and Carlos at Safeway and get yummi groceries for our weekend in the woods

Friday Afternoon
Jeni and Carlos headed up to Big Basin earlier to get the spot reserved. They set up camp and waited and waited and since there was no sign of Macaroni (the nickname Jeni has for Neil and I), they left us a note at the camp base.

Friday Night
Neil and I got a very late start and finally arrived at Big Basin at 7pm. It was dusk but there was still enough daylight for us to assemble our camp. This was also Rocco and Peezy's first official camping trip and I think the fun began for them as soon as they got out of the car. Unfortunately Bellatrix had surgery on her ears so she had fresh stiches running through her ears so she wasn't allowed to play with the rest of the boys much...hence there are almost no pics of her pretty face :o(

As Neil and I began to pitch our tent, Carlos asked Neil to borrow his BRAND new Knife/Ax/Hammer combo that Neil bought from REI. Carlos was going to use it to hammer the stakes into the ground for their tent. All of a sudden we see Carlos running over to us with blood dripping down his arm. What the heck!! Apparently Neil's new little tool was the devil... As Carlos was hammering away, the knife fell out of the socket that was underneath the Ax and it punctured his wrist, barely missing an artery.

Carlos shortly left and headed to the Santa Cruz emergency room. Neil, Jeni and I were really sad and we felt horrible that the trip started off on such a poor note. We just chilled and ate while we waited for Carlos to arrive. About 3 hours later, Carlos appeared and we all began to cheer. Jeni greeted him with a huge HUG and KISS and Carlos his hand/wrist wrapped up. Fortunately he didn't need stitches but the cut was deep enough that he had to get a medical opinion.

Saturday
We woke up slowly the next morning and started to talk about hiking. Although big basin allows dogs at the campgrounds, they do not allow dogs on the hiking trails!! WHATEVER!! That sucked so we ended up going to my favorite beach PANTHER...

However, we ran into another prob. The beach felt more like a hurricane. The weather which was seemingly sunny was paired up with gnarly winds and horrific stand blasts. The wind was so bad that we left the beach after 45 minutes of TRYING to bare with it. We did manage to let the dogs run around, we saw some naked old men (hot!) and also got to experience sand hitting our legs at 100 miles an hour. IT WAS AWESOME!!

We headed back to the campsite, took showers and chilled around the fire for a bit.

All the dogs were pretty exhausted from the day's activities. Rocco and Peezy begged to be placed in the tent (the hated being in there the first day!) So neil and I tucked them in and that is where they stayed the rest of the night.

Carlos and Neil stole the girls' Gossip magazines to read an article about girl boobs... They were so intrigued that Neil's knife fell onto Carlos's lap and almost cut him again. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

We enjoyed some delicious steak Saturday night after having a long day. Everyone was hungry, especially Jeni and I... we just couldn't wait for the food to be done!

Well all in all the weekend was good fun. There are a lot more camping trips in the horizon for myself so I look forward to sharing those experiences with my blog again soon.

and by the way, carlos and neil aren't mad at eachother. All of the knife incidents were completely accidental and as shown in the picture below, these boys love each other.
