Peezy's Surgery Details
Today was a big day for us. Neil and I had been struggling with the fact that we had to have a major operation on Peezy and today, we dropped him off at the vet for his procedure.
Peezy, our youngest doggie, had been abused and due to his poor breeder habits, Peezy has faced some challenging issues. The current one, being the biggest, is that his left leg had Angular Limb Deformity. This deformity caused him to place all of his pressure on his little ankle joint when he stood. Making it VERY hard on him and longterm effects of Angular Limb Deformity can lead to amputation of the leg if not treated.
Anatomy:
Growth plates, which are responsible for longitudinal bone growth are located near the ends of the bones and are found in animals less one year of age. The majority of a dog’s growth occurs during four to eight months of age. Usually by one year of age, when the pet is mature, the growth plates are closed and are not visible on x-rays. The growth plates are much softer than other regions of the bones, therefore are more prone to injury. The picture on the right shows how the deformity can place a lot of pressure on a dogs joints.
If you know Peezy, you know that he's a super energetic dog who lives to play with toys and people. He loves dancing and he especially loves to play tug-o-war. All of that will have to be on hold for 6-8 weeks. The procedure is hard on the owners too because we have to keep Peezy from ALL activity and that will be challenging.
I just got a call from his vet and Peezy is now out of surgery and doing well. Neil, Rocco and I are going to visit him before the vet closes. Rocco is here at work with me and he has been sooo good. Everyone at my work has been treating him like an angel and he is digging all the attention. It will be really wierd without Peezy at home tonight but I will keep everyone posted on his recovery.

Please keep Peezy in your prayers. He would appreciate it :)
