MLK - Day Off Thanks to Him :)

Intuit never got Martin Luther King day off so now that I'm with Real Networks, I'm enjoying a day off although I'm sick and still feeling like crap. I have spent the last week sick as a dog. The worst flu I've had ever. My voice, my chest, my body, everything hurt. The hardest thing was that I couldn't talk and those that know me know its a hard thing for me not to do. I am doing better today but not that great. Whatever. Flu's suck.

The weather is rainy today and it gives me an excuse to stay indoors and do some wedding planning. This weekend has been a wedding extravaganza. On Saturday, Neil and I drove to Sonora where Neil's mom Linda had planned a small engagement dinner for us with their entire family. The dinner was fantastic although according to Neil I sounded like 'Darth Vadar'. My voice was really bad and I didn't feel good but it was important that we went and met with everyone. Everyone was very happy for us and it was nice sharing our special engagement with Neil's family.

Sunday was more soon-to-be-bridal fun. My mom and I went to the Fairmont Hotel Bridal Show and it was crazy. There are soooo many things to do that I got a bit overwhelmed. Everyone asked me about a data and a place and I couldn't answer ANYONE since I don't know either. I got home and my mom and I were trying to figure out things but I am ALL over the place when it comes to picking my wedding destination. Literally ALL OVER THE PLANET :)

I needed to come back down to earth so it was nice when Alana and Scott stopped by to watch the GreenBay-Giants NFC playoff game. Although the stupid Giants won, it was soo nice to see the Rislov's and ELLA. Poor thing had a cold so she was not feeling all that wonderful but it was still great to give her some hugs and kisses.

Once they left, Neil and I pulled out our laptops and I asked him to seriously send me some wedding spots he likes... and to my surprise Neil found a place that is sounding like THE ONE. We both love it, its a little far north and its beautiful and it totally fits our personalities. I'm going to keep it on the down low until we finalize the details. More to come. Stay tuned.

Before I end this note, I'd like to take a moment to remember Martin Luther King Jr and his legacy. Heres a fun little version of Rougetimes'

"Did you know that..."
  • At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his selection, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement.
  • Martin Luther King Day was established as a national holiday in the United States in 1986
  • On April 6, 2002, the New York Times reported a church minister, Rev. Ronald Denton Wilson, claimed his father, Henry Clay Wilson—not James Earl Ray—assassinated Martin Luther King Jr. He stated, "It wasn't a racist thing; he thought Martin Luther King was connected with communism, and he wanted to get him out of the way."
  • King is the second most admired person in the 20th century,
  • King was elected the third Greatest American of all time by the American public in a contest conducted by the Discovery Channel and AOL.
  • As of 2006, more than 730 cities in the United States had streets named after King. King County, Washington rededicated its name in his honor in 1986, and changed its logo to an image of his face in 2007. The city government center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is the only city hall in the United States to be named in honor of King.
Have a great day and stay warm.
