Starbucks closing 600 stores in U.S.

Wow. This is crazy news. Starbucks is closing another large set of stored (roughly 600) in the United States alone!! WOW. The economy must be REALLY jacked up. In fact, most of the new stores that you saw open up overnight around the nation will be mostly impacted. According to Starbucks, 70 percent of the stores to be closed were opened after the start of 2006. With this store closure, comes about 12,000 workers who will be out of a pretty darn good job. Starbucks is known for their great employee benefits and this is not good during an already crappy time.

How much has starbucks been impacted by the economy? Well in their 2nd quarter alone, they saw a 28 percent as U.S. consumers cut back on visits in light of rising food and gas prices. That number is only to grow as gas prices don't seem to be slowing down and job loss is at an all time HIGH.

Some things to think about:
(1) Less coffee drinkers can cause more accidents. Sleepy drivers on the road. Not good.
(2) Less starbucks means less places to go online when you need the internet really bad. bummer.
