a million years later...
Yes its been about a gazillion months or so since my last post...what I consider the longest hiatus I have had on our blog since I started blogging back in 2003. Well I am back, for now, with tons of energy and my fingers ready to type away!
Life Updates: Part 1: The working world…
WORK: After being laid off in August 2009 from real networks, I never really slowed down. Neil was in the heart of his 1st football season with Sobrato, Leonidus was growing rapidly and I didn't have a moment to spare. I could not let myself get down about being laid off. The unemployment rate was well in the double digits and I had to be thankful for my health and family rather than dwell upon the fact that I was temporarily jobless.
Having a strong family support group helped me with building the confidence that I needed to stay positive during this really hard part of my life. I was shocked at how horrible and low it felt to get laid off. I wasn't emotionally prepared for it but I am so thankful for my family and friends really got me through it all. Someone told me this quote and it really put things into perspective:
“Life's up and downs provide windows of opportunity to determine your values and goals - Think of using all obstacles as stepping stones to build the life you want”
After a few days of reevaluating my life I quickly transitioned myself to work at Intero Real Estate with the help and aid of my amazing and talented and GIVING mom. I found that I really loved real estate and especially loved working with my mom. I had always helped her on the side but doing it full time was really rewarding.
I also LOVED working with my mom. We'd have coffee together in the mornings, yummy home cooked lunches at noon and we'd go home every so often to see Leonidus :) My new job was AMAZING!!
Then, in late November, I got a call from Yahoo! and I got an offer to be the program manager of their Search & Advertising Metrics & Analysis team. The opportunity was great and I after wrestling with the idea for a few days, I had to accept.
I started at Yahoo! shortly thereafter and have been trying to learns the INS and OUTS of my new role over the past few weeks. I had to leave real estate and my mom for the time being for this new opportunity. It was not an easy decision for me to leave but I have worked 8 long years for this opportunity and could not let it pass me up. That was my work-life update.
Please stay tuned for other updates as I slowly make my way back to the blog-world ;) Parry Out!
